Building a stunning, handcrafted artisan instrument is a long process. A process where many skills of woodworking come together and requires understanding of how the materials and construction affect the sound of the finished guitar. Every element of the building process is done by hand, assembling all the pieces together to create a beautiful and easy to play guitar.
I select only the best possible timber I can find by listening to the sound of the bare wood, how it feels and looks, in search for the aesthetically most beautiful pieces combined with the best possible tonal qualities.
One of the things that has great influence to the sound is the bracing system or fan struts. These are pieces of wood glued to the soundboard and back inside the guitar. I have used several different bracing systems, from Antonio de Torres, Hermann Hauser to Manuel Rodriguez, which I can build upon request.
All my standard guitars are built with my signature bracing systems.
The aesthetic beauty of a guitar is something I personally find very important. It is special and satisfying to own an instrument that not only sounds beautiful, it looks as good as it sounds. An instrument that begs to be picked up and played. My signature rosette consists of more than 8000 individual pieces of wood and represents the first letter of my name. The colours may vary to match the design of other elements of the guitar like the bindings, purflings and head plate layers.
It is very important for the player to have an instrument that is comfortable and easy to play, stroking the strings should produce tone easy with good sustain and enable the player to be in control. String height or action should be comfortable and can be adjusted to the needs of the player.
